I spend a lot of time looking at clothes online, so it takes a little something extra to make me stop scrolling. A $99 suede jacket at Walmart did it. Scoop’s Cropped Suede Jacket is made with a 100% suede shell, and somehow it’s still under $100. It doesn’t look like the kind of piece you’d expect to find while picking up groceries and paper towels.
Brown suede jackets are everywhere this fall, but many of the affordable versions are made from polyester. There’s nothing wrong with faux suede, but finding genuine suede at this price is much more unusual.
The Scoop jacket comes in two very wearable shades of brown: a warm medium brown called Brown Field and a deeper Dark Chocolate Brown. The silhouette feels current without looking overly trendy: slightly cropped, relaxed through the body, with a stand collar and subtle utility details. It’s the kind of jacket that could make jeans and a T-shirt look immediately more intentional.
Scoop didn’t try to do too much with it. There’s a simple zip front covered by snap buttons, two welt pockets, dropped shoulders and a pleated detail across the back. At about 20.7 inches long, it hits at a true cropped-jacket length. The jacket is also fully lined, which is another detail I wouldn’t necessarily expect at this price.
I’d wear the dark chocolate version with straight-leg jeans, a cream sweater and brown loafers for an easy everyday outfit. It would also look great over a simple knit dress or paired with wide-leg trousers and a fitted tee.
The warmer Brown Field color would be especially good with denim, navy, cream, burgundy or even some of the chartreuse and olive shades showing up this fall.
Basically, it does what a good third piece should do: make very simple clothes look styled.
The jacket is currently offered in sizes XS through 4X. Several reviewers say it fits fairly true to size, although at least one reviewer noted that sizing up could make sense if you want room for a heavier sweater underneath. Since suede doesn’t have the same give as a knit or stretchy faux-suede jacket, I’d pay attention to the size chart.
There are plenty of inexpensive faux-suede jackets out there right now. It’s the combination of real suede, a wearable shape and a $99 price tag that makes this feel like a find. If your size is available, I wouldn’t wait too long to decide on this one.
